Workforce Development Services at Urban League of Middle Tennessee

We are committed to helping African Americans and other minorities to enter and stay in the economic mainstream of Nashville, Middle Tennessee, and America.

Our mission is to enable African Americans and other minorities to secure economic self reliance, parity and power, and civil rights.

Our Urban League of Middle Tennessee is committed to empowering our community and changing the lives of our clients and their families through providing workforce development services to our Middle Tennessee region.  We provide workforce development services to job seekers with a variety of skill sets, experience and education levels, credentials, and ambitions.

ULMT engages in defining a more positive future for disadvantaged African Americans by helping to alleviate unemployment and underemployment.  Though many of our clients represent difficult to serve populations, our focus is broader, and includes Urban League clients and members who hold degrees and career paths based on a strong productive work history. We serve clients who are gainfully employed but seek career advancement.  We expect our clients to become empowered to improve their lives, their families, and their communities through economic empowerment.

Some of our clients are referred to Vocational and Post-Secondary Education programs, GED preparation, job-specific training, specialized life-skills programs, and supportive services providers.

We also provides a variety of employment services designed to identify career interests and job readiness.  We help clients to research and plan their career path. These services include face-to-face employer contacts during in-house Urban League presentations as well as Urban League job fairs, .  We provide career and needs assessments, one-on-one resume writing,  cover letter writing assistance, interview skills, help developing effective multi-media job search techniques, job leads, electronic and paper applications, life skills, job survival skills, career planning, goal setting, and case management.

Our experienced Workforce Development staff provides several thousands units of service to our clients annually. Our staff is well acquainted with workforce trends and Middle Tennessee employer needs. As a result of our work in workforce development, the families and communities we serve grow stronger economically. Unemployment is reduced, family sustaining incomes becomes reality for some and increases for others, career advancement is achieved, and our clients retain their jobs while growing their benefits and salaries.

We Empower Communities.  Change Lives.
